2026 March Newsletter

Can you believe how warm it's been this winter? Nearly half of our winter days have been over 60 degrees. I know many of us are wondering when to start pulling out the hoses and watering our yards, plants, and trees- and the answer is now, even if it's just hauling buckets to your trees. Give them a drink.

At our February meeting, we were joined by Bryan Botello, a Senior City Planner, to provide information about the Neighborhood Planning Initiative (NPI) for Denver's Near Northeast Neighborhoods that is kicking off, including Skyland, Cole, Clayton, North Park Hill & Northeast Park Hill! The slides from that presentation are included below.

At our upcoming meeting on March 10th, we are holding a community discussion with two goals: (1) contribution to our Skyland Neighborhood wish-list / needs with map planning for the NPI, and (2) community preparedness discussion around potential Department of Homeland Security (DHS) activity. Our board member, Heath, will help facilitate this discussion and we'll have a representative from Denver Department of Public Health & Environment, specifically the Food Access Program Administrator, to provide updates and resources related to food access partners and pantries throughout Denver. We'll also briefly hear from our neighbor, Oliver, who is seeking community support letters for DURA grant-funding to open an Asian fusion spot in Skyland (with a lease signed at 2801 N Madison St), serving salad/rice bowls along with coffee and tea beverages!

In April, we'll be joined by District 9 Council Member, Darrell Watson, to provide updates on a City and District level, and to answer your questions. For future meetings, we've reached out to the Sidewalk Implementation folks, DOTI to provide Colorado Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) information, and we're planning a future session to highlight neighborhood history and provide renter-to-homeowner information. We'll also start planning Trash Parties! If you have suggestions for discussion leadership and/or community organization, please reach out. Help us advocate for Skyland by attending and voicing your concerns. Our meetings are open to residents and the public. We welcome your feedback about topics or guests you'd like to learn from in the future.
