Skyland Neighborhood Newsletter
August 2026 Edition - Happy Colorado Day!
Skyland Neighbors was formed and registered with the City of Denver a year ago. We are a volunteer group of neighbors who organize monthly newsletters, informational meetings, social engagements like weekly summer happy hours, trash pickups, garden gatherings, and attend community events like SkylandPalooza & SkytoberFest. We are celebrating 318 subscribers to our Registered Neighborhood Organization (RNO) for Skyland, average 20-30 attendees at monthly meetings, and 4 of us serve on the Near NE Area Plan Advisory Committee! It has been so rewarding connecting neighbors and building representation for our neighborhood in city initiatives.
If you're available at 5pm on Thursdays, join us to pick up trash in the neighborhood! It's been unexpectedly fun serving the community, while meeting neighbors and enjoying a beer afterwards. If you prefer to go solo, don't forget to log your trash collection on TrashParty.org.
Big thanks to Selina and Tina for hosting our Garden Gatherings in July; we loved these inspirational opportunities to gather with neighbors in home garden settings and can't wait to expand next year's Garden Club programming.
Events to pencil on your calendar for the Fall: SkytoberFest (Oct 3rd) & Skyland Spooktacular Block Party (Oct 31st). We're also brainstorming a Holiday Gathering (Dec 8th). More details to come!
At our community meeting on August 11th, we'll have a presentation on Unlocking Housing Choices. Want to know more about this effort to increase middle housing in Denver? This is the perfect opportunity to learn more and ask questions.
Last month, we were joined by the Sidewalk Improvement Planning folks and learned all about Denver's project to repair and build Denver's broken and missing sidewalks.
We're organizing future sessions to hear from city officials about the Your City Your Voice RNO Reform efforts and creation of an Office of Community Engagement (Sep), and hear updates from our Council Member Watson (Nov). We're also hoping to highlight neighborhood history and provide renter-to-homeowner information, and hear from DOTI on the Colorado Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
If you have suggestions for discussion leadership and/or community organization, please reach out. Help us advocate for Skyland by attending and voicing your concerns. Our meetings are open to residents (whether you own or rent) and the public. We welcome your feedback about topics or guests you'd like to learn from in the future.
