February 2026 Update

Our meetings are now seeing an average of 30+ neighbors in attendance to engage on Skyland initiatives! We look forward to meeting and chatting with more of you as we approach Spring and Summer social opportunities, including the resurrection of weekly happy hours and our new gardening club!

At our January meeting, we were joined by Denverite and Colorado Public Radio (CPR) News reporter, Paolo Zialcita, to hear from residents about Skyland's food desert and lack of walkable groceries. Max and Emily returned to provide updates about their Corner on Madison venture at the former Frank's Food Mart. That meeting resulted in a Denverite article, "Frank’s Food Market in Skyland to find new life as a new grocery."

This month, the Neighborhood Planning Initiative (NPI) for Denver's Near Northeast Neighborhoods is kicking off, including Skyland, Cole, Clayton, North Park Hill & Northeast Park Hill! We'll be joined at our February 10th meeting by Bryan Botello, a Senior City Planner, to provide information about neighborhood planning, what it means for our community, and how residents can participate. Please note there are action items for neighborhood planning and sidewalk surveys below.

Neighbors have inquired if we can host a community preparedness discussion around potential Department of Homeland Security (DHS) activity. Given everything happening on a national level, we'll reserve time to openly converse on this topic at our meeting on March 10th. While we aim to be nonpartisan, our mission "to inform and engage Skyland neighbors for the purpose of fostering a connected and resilient community capable of collective advocacy on behalf of the neighborhood," necessitates us to work together on political topics. We all want to live in a neighborhood where we feel safe. If you have suggestions for discussion leadership and/or community organization, please reach out! We're working to schedule CM Watson again in April or May. Help us advocate for Skyland by attending and voicing your concerns. Our meetings are open to residents and the public. We welcome your feedback about topics or guests you'd like to learn from in the future.
